Humming Bird Wars

Humming Bird Every year about this time the Humming birds fly down from the mountains and it because pandemonium around the humming bird feeder. I set up my tripod to capture the knock down drag out aerobatics dog fighting that goes on. The fairly safe humming bird feeder that most of the summer a couple hummers has a safe sip and couple of squabbles, turns into a Hot LZ with three of four hummers constantly battling over a piece of red and yellow plastic, one part sugar three parts water.

let the battle begin

In between battles the hummers take small breaks, enabling me to get some awesome close up of these faster than light tiny miracles of flight.

Then back to the battling with a little game of hide and seek.

Humming Birds

Tonight I will go to sleep hearing “HMZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ” in my ears

and dreaming of the hummers battling.

I love hummingbirds. I haven't seen one for several years. I guess I need to plant the right flowers and put out a little feeder. They're beautiful little creatures.

Hi Roger.
I had a neat experience with a humming bird just last week. I have butterfly bushes outside my bathroom window and I alway have to have my window open up in the morning when getting ready for work. When I first open up the window, I always have to stand there and look out for a bit to enjoy the outdoors. One morning I was looking out and a humming bird came up and it was like he was checking me out. I did not dare move as was just in awe of watching it. Then as fast as it came to say hi it was gone. But made for a great start for the morning.
Great captures. Hope your weeks a great one.
Smiles Barbara

Last year my neighbor had a hummingbird feeder. When I was home I'd hear this buzzing through the glass, and I could see the hummingbirds doing what you were observing over the weekend -- fighting over the feeder.

You'd think they wouldn't go as high as ten stories up, but they do!

I've only had one or two at the most at my feeder. And they never seem to stay very long. I've yet to try shooting them.

These are awesome shots, very inspiring.

Man Roger! Those are some AWESOME photographs! I love the sound that hummingbirds make - I always hear them before I see them.

Roger you are something else, lol, but you know I think you have too many of those hummingbirds, so tell few to come over my place for the photo shoot, lol. Kidding aside, Roger excellent series of hummingbird photographs. Anna :)

I LOVE to try to photograph those little buggers when they are buzzing around my feeder. It seems like the war is really on after a storm or a lot of rain. I don't know if that's common, but it seems to be the case here.

Great shots (as usual!!!), Roger.
